Homeless persons experience high rates of health problems such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) and Hepatitis A infections, alcohol and drug addiction, mental illness, tuberculosis, and other serious conditions. Homelessness is closely connected to declines in physical and mental health. While this definition refers specifically to homeless individuals, it is equally applicable to homeless families. People who have lost their housing due to personal, social, or environmental circumstances.
